Why is the cost different in each state?
Because there is no common method. The 48 states between them use eighteen different pricing models — fifteen of those for weight alone. Ten states charge one flat rate whatever the load weighs. Others price by weight bracket, by pounds over the legal limit, per ton per mile, or off an axle-by-weight-by-distance table. Twenty-one of the 48 price by distance, which is why the calculator asks for the miles through each state rather than the total trip.
Is it $20 per state or $20 per permit?
Per permit filed. In 38 states a load that is both oversize and overweight is a single permit with a single fee, so that is $20. Ten states charge an oversize fee and a weight fee separately, and those are two filings at $20 each. The calculator applies each state’s own rule rather than assuming.
How accurate is the escort estimate?
The number of escort vehicles comes from each state’s published thresholds and is as accurate as the rest of the check. The cost is an estimate, because escort day rates are market rates rather than published ones. The model bills by engagement and day minimum rather than by the mile, since a car hired for forty miles still bills a day and you cannot dismiss one at a state line.

Why does one state say the fee is on review?
A few states publish a fee table that stops before the heaviest configurations. When a load falls past the end of the table there is no published figure to quote, and the state prices it case by case. Rather than show a zero, the calculator says the state prices it on review and leaves that amount out of the total.
Does the route account for low bridges and truck restrictions?
Yes. Every time you price a route, the routing gets your load’s height, width, length, gross weight and axle count, and avoids the low bridges and the width, length and weight restrictions it knows about for a load that size. Change a dimension and price the route again, and the route is recalculated. It is a planning route: the route on your state permit is the one you must follow, and a superload can still need a route survey.
